Still Life

Still Life is an online interactive AV work comissioned during COVID lockdowns, where viewers observed, engaged with and participated in creating a foundation of new language for describing the various listening states and the attributes of these different states. The audio and visuals of the work focus on content that extends listening states, and the spaces beyond semantics, where new thought can emerge first as an abstract before materialising into sensation and verbalisation.

Commissioned by CHASE for Auradiversities: Listening in The Present Tense 2020, a year-long programme addressing the ‘auraldiverse turn’ in Arts and Humanities research and theory, questioning how and what we hear, what we listen to and why, as situated within our contemporary milieu: that of ecological, existential, social, economic and epidemiological crises. Curated by Soundfjord, Alice Eldridge and John Drever for Sound Practice Research.
