Birchlight

Commissioned for Sonic Waterloo Festival at Iklectik, London, Birchlight is a light responsive installation. It uses found glass prism objects to refract the sunlight amongst the birch branches whilst the wind changes the amount of light filtering through the birch tree leaves activating the audio signal. Revisiting themes in Plum’s work of angles of incidence and the transformation of accidental phenomena, this work explores the improvisational possibilities in dieting with nature, where the quality of dappled light through the shimmering birch leaves is the ‘performer’ of the piece.
