Caesura

“The turn of the tide…”

The focus of 'Caesura' is the silence between sound, and the momentum caused by the mechanisms, in both nature and in architecture, that exist in the spaces between visible activity. Caesura is a film with choral composition, using the film as the conductor for vocal explorations of the moment before the crest of the waves falls, or the stillness in the pendulum turning. What is occurring in the fallow ground while it rests? We know the land must rest, as must we, and that nature will renew the resources needed for a future yield. In a world where sound is an escalating issue, 'Caesura' contemplates the value of silent spaces within sound seeking balance. Field recordings and vocal performance are melded with meditative visuals of landscape and lighthouse mechanisms soon to be destroyed by natural erosion and technological development. Filmed on location at St Catherine’s Lighthouse, Isle of Wight.
